The issue manifests itself almost immediately after selecting Live or Live (failsafe) from the boot menu. You can actually see the error if you choose the failsafe option.
kernel requires an x86-64 CPU, but only detected an i686 CPU
This issue has been replicated in Virtual Box and on an Intel Atom powered netbook as well. Gigastrand has no 32-bit only version of 3.0 as of this writing so the current solution is to install 2.2.
